Ellen G. White
was born in Gorham, Maine Nov. 26, 1827 and died
July 16, 1915. A Methodist until aged 17, she was very
influential in the early Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Only a teenager when the followers of William Miller
suffered their "Great Disappointment" when Jesus
Christ failed to appear in the clouds of heaven on
October 22, 1844, she was part of a group that went
on to study and pray and search for further "Light".
........For Sister Ellen, a sickly, sensitive, and very
religious person, the answer to these prayers came
in the form of rapturous visions of angels and heaven
and Jesus Himself.......During these visions, which
often occurred in meetings, or when she was not
alone, she would often seem to stop breathing, could
perform feats of strength far beyond her usual frail
health, and would sometimes cry out "Glory, glory"
as her eyes and brain were recording scenes that
no one else was seeing.
........Remember now, this was 50 years before the
Fatima visions, and 40 + years before the Pentecostal
revival associated with Azuza Street.....Ellen White
became a very Charismatic speaker, and could hold
large crowds spell-bound without loud speakers and
microphones, unavailable most of her lifetime.
Even were she to have had no visions, nor to have
been so involved in church leadership, she would
have had a place in history as a well-know speaker
in the late 19th and early 20th centuries on the
subjects of Temperence and Health.
.......To Seventh-day Adventists, she is "The Prophetess",
her many books nick-named "The Spirit of Prophecy",
and imparted, rightly or wrongly, with near infallibility.
We will be examining part of one of these books, and
some of these visionary prophecies, no doubt in a
manner that will distress many Seventh-day Adventists,
on this WEB-SITE.
