Although William Miller's spiritual children, the
Seventh-day Adventists, Advent Christians, Jehovah's
Witnesses, and World-wide Church of God have minor
differences in what they expect to occur about the
year 2000 AD, each of these groups expects a radical
change to occur at Christ's Second Coming, and the
original view of the Millerites is still supported to some
extent, emotionally if not logically.
......The central "hope" [or flaw] in these expectations,
is that Jesus Christ, as a part of the ALL-POWERFUL
TRINITY, or God-head, will bring everything to a
halt on this earth of a mundane nature, and in the most
extreme view, KILL everyone "by the brightness of His
Coming".
........Only those so perfect in nature as to be already fit
to live in heaven will be able to endure this event, which
will be so world-shattering that only ruins will be left a
few hours later....ruins that will be inhabited for 1000
years by bats and owls and beasts and the Devil and
his demons.......Billions of dead people will be unburied
until they rot or are eaten by carrion-eaters, because
not one human is still alive to mourn over them or bury
them.
......Those saintly people of other centuries who met
earlier, lesser standards of Holiness, will rise out of
their graves as Jesus calls to them from His cloud
overhead, and this triumphal procession, all very much
alive and with flesh and blood bodies [but perhaps
weightless] , will travel to Heaven [a seven-days'
journey] to judge the dead for 1000 years.
......After 1000 years, the wicked of all ages will rise
from the dead for one last gesture of defiance against
God, at which time they will die a second death in
torture appropriate to their sinful lives.
Scores or hundreds of Bible Texts are used to support these ideas, and if
one looks at each of these texts as being LITERAL, not SYMBOLIC, and
makes no allowance for "Apocalyptic" exaggerations, they do INDEED
support the scenero presented above.....Generation after generation has
held this to be the ABSOLUTE TRUTH during my lifetime and before!
However, other texts in both the Old and New Testa-
ments support another SCENERO, radically DIFFER-
ENT than the one just presented.....One that has
found many more supporters than the Millerite view.
