It was an Australian Professor in the University of Sydney, Barbara Thiering, PHD,
who first discovered how involved the ESSENES were with the Noah's Ark story and
imagery..... Of course, predictably, modern ministers and priests have ignored her book,
who have read the book are impressed with her scholarship, although the book is far
from "light reading"........ I bought my copy soon after it published in 1992, and practically
memorized it.

The ESSENES, as most know, had their own "Jerusalem" at Qumran, a few kilometers
from Jericho, on the shore of the DEAD SEA..... The more priestly ESSENES were
celibate most of the time, but had a wife they cohabited with long enough to make her
pregnant every 3 to 5 years, depending upon whether the baby born was a girl or a
boy..... [Boys were allowed a longer exclusive training period with their mothers.] .......
You might say the ESSENES "invented" family planning and birth-control,
although few today would resort to celibacy to accomplish this!.... Also they adopted
unwanted babies, who were brought up as "Monks" and never allowed to marry, since
most had no definate genealogy to pass on to their descendents.....
There are, of course no FISH in the Dead Sea, because the concentration of salt and
chemicals was so strong that FISH would be killed even if let loose in this water....
Thus the name..."Dead Sea".... However, as at Pammakale near Laodicea, the people
with skin diseases [symbolic "leprosy"] and Arthritis [lame] came here from all over the
Roman Empire to be "cured"..... And the ESSENES became known as great physicians..
Particularly ONE of their number called Yeshua ben Miriam by His associates, and
Jesus of Nazareth by millions since then...
Those familiar with what was found in the caves at or near Qumran know
that the Essenes were quite familiar with Astrology, and that a number of
horoscopes were found among the other Dead Sea Scrolls.
......One of these "Horoscopes" was really that of Yeshua ben Miriam, alias Jesus of

While He was the Essene Messiah, Jesus and His associates used a lot of Piscean
Imagery in what are now called the "Synoptic Gospels" ...Matthew, Mark, and Luke,
while the Theology of "John" is "Egyptian Theology", and only in the last chapter, chapter
21, written many years after the rest of "John", are we involved with "fishing for men".
As I am writing this note on 5-6-2000, Archbishop O'Conner has just died, and NBC News has assured us all that Pope John Paul II will replace him with someone just as opposed to BIRTH CONTROL, contraception by any means the "Church" considers "unnatural" and Abortion as was Archbishop O'Conner! ....The irrational reasoning is that "God" doesn't condone BIRTH CONTROL! ..If, as the "Church" has held since the Council of NICAEA [4th Century AD] Jesus is God, part of the TRINITY; God, as a human, practiced BIRTH CONTROL, and the Church's policy is INSANE and potentially LETHAL to both continued human life and all other living things! |
humanity. John Riddle, a classics scholar at North Carolina University, has written about a female contraceptive used by the ancient GREEKS and ROMANS and reputed to be safe and effective. Known as silphion to the GREEKS and silphium to the ROMANS, it was the economic staple of the Greek city-state of Cyrene, which apparently encompassed most of the plant's natural habitat. The plant was mentioned in the writings of Pliny, Hippocrates, Dioscorides and even in a play by Aristophanes. Highly prized, it was worth more than its weight in silver and was portrayed on Cyrenian coins. ........Riddle and his colleagues have reported that experiments on lab rats with common fennel (a close relative of silphium's) did indeed show contracep- tive activity. Unfortunately, they were unable to test the efficacy of silphium itself. Because of the insatiable demand for it in the ancient world, silphium went extinct about 1,500 years ago." |
There were a few Greeks and Romans at Qumran while Jesus was in training there and during His three and one half years as an Essene "Messiah"....the "Pesher" shows that His political partner Simon the Zealot had a female partner named Helena, who never, it seems, got pregnant [the "Woman of Samaria"of John's Gospel]. It seems quite likely she used silphium as a contraceptive. Jesus talks to her at length in the Gospel story, and said not a word to her in condemnation of her lack of children, although her many husbands and her living with a man outside of marriage is commented on. ......Priestly and Royal Essenes were only allowed to have a son every 6 years, or a daughter every 2-3 years so the children could be brought up and educated properly. ...These Essenes were famed physicians, and it is not inconceivable that they knew about and used silphium and perhaps other contraceptive medicines and devices! .....Even if some of my Jesuit friends don't allow the argument that if Jesus did it, "God did it", they can't deny God or Jesus "made" the plant called silphium. ......Historically, the Romans were able to control the known world because of their riches and power. Evidently silphium played a part in this, much as BIRTH CONTROL has made the United States and Modern Europe the modern "Rome". We can't allow an archaic group of Middle Ages' mentality Archbishops and Popes take all that away from us, and destroy the natural world also to "protect" archaic definitions and mistaken "theology"! There might not be any present Roman Archbishops to antagonize American women if it were not for well-to-do Romans of the past who practiced BIRTH CONTROL! |
