Living Healthfully on a Limited Income!
Because I am now retired and living on half a Social Security Retirement
Check (other half
supports an ex-wife), and because I have a Medical Degree and Public
Health Degree, I
myself put in practice the advice I am here offering to you! ...Rich
people may not find any
of this useful, but the rest of you might find it saves your life!
Vitamin C lasts no longer than 12 hours in its protective effects, so
take a smaller, cheaper
dose twice a day. ...Without Vitamin E, Vit C degrades into an Oxidant,
so to preserve its
protective effect, take a smaller, cheaper dose of Vit E at the same
time as the Vit C. ...
Especially if you are a smoker, or are exposed to second-hand smoke at
your job, Vit C
is a MUST! ...I use 250 mg Vit C and 200 I.U. Vit E.
Beware of Multivitamins that are unbalanced (500% of this, 10% of that,
etc.), and those
that contain few or no minerals. ...Because most vegetables and fruits
are now grown on
MINERAL-DEPLETED soil, with only several minerals "put back"
(those that ensure
larger crops), most Americans lack proper minerals unless they get them
in a One-a-day
Multivitamin. ...I use "OneSource" from WalMart, but others
are just as good.
Ginkgo is the best of the herbals in benefits for the money spent. ...It
does wonders for
your circulation, especially to the brain. ...No better non-prescription
drug to prevent or
slow the progress of Alzheimer's and better than some prescription drugs
that cost many
times as much! ...On a limited budget, get the smaller dose and take
three times a day
(40 mg leaf extract). ...Those at high risk should double this, as the
bottle recommends.
Hardly a month goes by that the medical profession does not find some
new benefits from
using Ginkgo Biloba. ...Also, a small Aspirin a day if you're not allergic,
or tend to bleed
or have ulcers. ...WARNING: A few people are also allergic to Ginkgo...Don't
take it
if you are!
Total MINIMUM daily protective drug program....Vit C, Vit E, Ginkgo breakfast
and
supper time. ...Multivitamins & Minerals + Ginkgo with lunch. ...Small
Aspirin a day
optional.
EXERCISE: New studies show that even a little walking is far better than
none. ...You
don't have to be an athlete, buy all that jogging stuff, and risk your
life in dangerous
neighborhoods! ...Park your car a ways from where you shop or get your
mail to force
yourself to do a little exercise. ...Climbing a hill or some stairs is
even better (if health
permits).
MEAT: Just current in the news is someone who defied conventional wisdom,
ignored
expensive diet doctors and dangerous diet pills, expensive supplement
diet concoctions,
and fad diets, and lost several hundred pounds in one year by skipping
breakfast, eating
a lean turkey Subway 6 inch for lunch daily, and a foot-long Subway Veggie
Sub for
supper (with fat-free baked potato chips). ...Make sure you take our
daily protective
drugs above if you go on a limited diet as did this man! ...An amino-acid
supplement pill
such as "Body Fortress 1500" added to your lunch veggie soup
is a lot less dangerous
than greasy hamburger or pork! ...Fish twice a week has protective value
and provides
nutrients your brain needs, as do (believe it or not) blueberries! (This
on NBC Prime Time
early March, 2000).
At the super-market this weekj (early March, 2000), I bought one week's
groceries for
myself for about $7. ...The man at the checkout said, "I wish you
would shop for me!" ...
I said,"You can't buy meat and do this!" ...He said, "But
look what you have here, 3 bags
of groceries!" ..I use a lot of Ramen type soups, (dehydrated).
...Pasta sauce in cans, not
jars (1/2 as much), and cook with a little cheap oil, adding some Olive
Oil for health
benefits. ...Potatoes are good for you, it's what you put on them or
eat with them that
hurts you. ...A head of cabbage can last one person a week or more, one
leaf at a time,
has more fiber than lettuce (which spoils rapidly), Vit C also, and cancer-protective
value. ...
When I fix my $.20 Ramen soup, I put a little shredded cabbage in it,
a little oatmeal, and
soy sauce, and imagine I'm at a Chinese Restaurant!
Start the day with Old Fashioned Oatmeal, undercooked, don't feel hungry
all morning,
and help your heart, protect your bowels from cancer, and lower your
Cholesterol! ...
And as said the famous Alien Spock of Star Trek fame ..."Live long
and prosper!"
